Since Pastel Artists of Hawaii is dedicated to the advancement of soft pastels as a fine art medium, we encourage people to attend classes and workshops to advance their knowledge of pastels and, with time, become proficient in their use. The following is a schedule of classes and workshops that are currently being offered on O‘ahu.

PAH 2008 Workshops:

Gregory Biochini’s “Figure in the Landscape”
Monday, Oct. 20-24, 9 am. – 4 pm.
This plein air workshop will concentrate on placing a figures in landscape paintings. A model will be provided. Oil and acrylic painters are welcome to participate, although all demonstrations will be in pastel.

Pastel Classes with Helen Iaea

14-week Classes at Academy Art Center at Linekona:

Introduction to Soft Pastel
Great for artists new to pastel as a medium.

Wednesdays, 6:30-9:30 p.m.
Starts Jan. 21, 2008.

Portrait in Soft Pastel
Experience with soft pastels and/or previous enrollment in the
Introduction to Soft Pastel class is recommended.

Wednesdays, 1-4 p.m.
Starts Jan. 21, 2008.

Demos
Helen paints in front of the Gallery at Ward Centre on the first and third Saturday of each month from about 2-4 pm.

Plein Air Group Painting
For experience of painting on location, there is no better way than to have it with a group of similar like-minded artists.

Check out the Association of Hawaii Artists’ Plein Air Painters Web site for Saturday painting.

The Windward Wanderers meet every Wednesday morning at a different location, and Foster Gardens Plein Aire Painters very Thursday morning. Email the PAH Webmaster for contact information.

Figure Drawing Opportunities

Figure drawing/painting sessions at UH Manoa art building
Every Sunday: 9:30 am. - 12:30 pm. and 1 pm. - 4 pm.

Small model fee. No instructor.
The room (Room 323) is on the second floor in the mauka/ewa corner of the art building.

Figure drawing/painting sessions at Chaminade University

Tuesday evenings: 7:30 - 9 pm.
Small model fee. No instructor.

To get to the art room, drive into Chaminade’s entrance and follow the road left, circling around behind to the far right upper corner of the campus. Park and the building is just as the road turns right.

Figure Drawing at Windward

Every Friday morning.
Windward Community College in Kaneohe
Fee: $5 per session or $40 for ten sessions.

A pay as you go figure drawing opportunity can be found at Windward Community College, just of Kahekili Hwy. in Kaneohe (mauka of Kaneohe District Park. The drawing classroom is on the second floor of the art building, Hale Palanakila (see map below). There is no instruction — just a series of quick poses and then four roughly 25-minute poses.
